Recently my landscapes have taken on a strong vertical orientation. The separate elements are no longer interwoven within an environment but instead are stacked one on top of the other creating a kind of totem, or tower. One of the larger themes that caused this directional shift was the abstract notion of forms, buildings, cities, countries, and cultures being built on top of something pre-existing. All of these are built on foundations often less than suitable to support their weight. The result can be a morphed construct, creature, monster, or exquisite corpse.
